Surah

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Surah is a trade name for twill-weave silk, man-made fiber or semi-silk fabrics. The 6- to 12-cohesive broad-burr or multi-burr twill result in fabrics with a soft, pleasant and full handle and a heavy, flowing drape. Only expressive (plastic) twill line is the slip resistance to ensure such a silk fabric. A distinction is made between Surah fabric with a fine (narrow) diagonal rib (Surah-fine-côte) and a strong (broad) diagonal rib (Surah-große-côte). The strong ribbed fabrics are particularly useful for linings as well as shawls and scarves. But dresses, blouses and ties are also made from Surah. The weight per unit area of fabrics made from man-made fibers is approx. 330 g / m², those made from pure silk are approx. 120 - 160 g / m².
