Surf & Style

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Surf & Style is the largest European surfing event on an artificial standing wave . It takes place annually in August in the MAC Forum at Munich Airport . Part of the event is the hosting of the European championships in "Stationary Wave Riding".

history

Emergence

Inspired by the Munich Eisbach, which is now one of the most famous hotspots for river surfing worldwide, Munich Airport organized the first Surf & Style together with the atv-action team in August 2011. The surfing facility in the MAC forum measures over 860 m² and has an additional grandstand. A standing wave about 1.50 m high and 9 m wide is generated by a 10-pump system. The wave height is variable and can be adjusted as required. The 200 m² pool has a total of around 1,000 cubic meters of water - making the wave module the largest mobile surfing facility in the world. The developer of the system is Rainer Klimaschewski. In addition to the professionals, surfing enthusiasts children and adults can also surf the waves at Surf & Style. There are special multi-day kids' camps and free surfing is possible for everyone in the afternoons.

development

From August 1st to 19th, 2012 Surf & Style was held for the second time. Since 2012, registrations for free surfing in the afternoons have been necessary due to the high demand. The slots are limited to three quarters of an hour each, up to ten people can surf the wave in this time window. There are slots for both experienced surfers and beginners, who can then start their first surfing attempts with the help of a pole. The slots are allocated 2 days in advance and are limited to 1 slot per day per participant. In 2013, Surf & Style will be renewed for another week due to the great popularity. The event starts on July 31, 2013 and ends on August 25, 2013, the venue remains the MAC Forum at Munich Airport.
