Kanaker-Sejtun [z-] ( Armenian Քանաքեռ-Զեյթուն ) is a district in the northeast of Yerevan , the capital of Armenia . The municipality was created as a merger of the places Kanaker and Nor Sejtun and borders on the districts of Awan , Arabkir , Kentron , and Nor Nork .
The artist Chatschatur Abovjan and the musician Dschiwan Gasparjan come from Kanaker.
Nor Zeytun was founded between 1946 and 1948 by Armenian immigrants from Lebanon , Syria , Egypt , Iran , Iraq and Greece . The name Sejtun (Zeytun) is the old name of the city of Süleymanlı in what is now the Turkish province of Maraş .
Kanaker-Sejtun today has a population of 79,600 and an area of 8.1 km² (as of 2011). The district is located at an altitude of 1280 m above sea level. The mayor is Arajik Kotanschjan.
