Shengavite ( Armenian Շենգավիթ ) is a district of Yerevan , the capital of the Republic of Armenia . In 2011 the district had a population of 135,535. With an area of 40.5 km 2 , Schengawit is the second largest of the twelve city districts of Yerevan. Schengawit is located southwest of the city center and borders the districts of Erebuni , Kentron , Malatia-Sebastia and Nubaraschen . With its border with the suburban area, Schengawit borders the province of Ararat .
The Garegin Nschdeh -Platz forms with its metro station , the center of the district. The Erebuni Airport and a thermal power station are also located in Schengawit, as are the archaeological sites of a settlement of the Kura-Araxes culture and the Urartian city of Teišebai URU . One of the largest shopping centers in Armenia, the Yerevan Mall , is also located in Schengawit.
