Even today the settlement is considered one of the poorest in the city of Yerevan. In 2011 it had 141,900 inhabitants and an area of 25.8 km².
Zvartnots International Airport is located in the south-west of Malatya-Sebastya .
In Malatia-Sebastia there is a chess school run by Grand Master Levon Babudschjan .
Twin town
The twin town of the Malatya-Sebastia district is the south-eastern French city of Draguignan . In 2002, Draguignan's Mayor Max Piselli and the head of Malatya-Sebastia Aghwan Grigorjan signed a cooperation memorandum. An official partnership agreement was sealed on March 17, 2017, signed by the Deputy Head of Malatya-Sebastia and the Mayor of Draguignan Richard Strambio . The partnership relates primarily to cooperation in the fields of culture, social affairs, business, sport and tourism. A delegation from Draguignan, for example, visited Malatya-Sebastya in October 2017 for the city anniversary celebrations of Erebuni-Yerevan 2799 .
