Suryavamsha ( Sanskrit सूर्यवंश sūryavaṃśa m. "Sun Dynasty") is a mythical dynasty in Hinduism .

Manu Vaivasvata, the son of the sun god Surya, is considered to be the progenitor of this sun dynasty . His son Ikshvaku had two sons, from whom the two main lines descended. The kings of Ayodhya are derived from Vikukshi and the kings of Mithila from Nimi . The most famous representative of the sun dynasty is Rama , a prince and avatar of the god Vishnu .

According to the Buddhist historical work Mahavamsa , the prince Siddhartha Gautama, the historical Buddha, belongs to the Ikshvaku dynasty ( Pali : Okkāka).
