Suther Ness is an uninhabited peninsula with a small lighthouse in the northwest of the island of Whalsay, part of the Scottish Shetlands . On the seaside, it juts out into the northern part of Linga Sound , which separates Whalsay from West Linga Island. It is connected to Whalsay by a tombolo , and the village of Brough extends adjacent to it . The south-western boundary is the South Voe of Brough. To the northeast lies another peninsula, Kirk Ness , both of which are separated by the Houb Bay. NessAs a name designation in Scotland stands for a piece of land protruding into a body of water, for example a headland .

Suther Ness has remains of settlements that were considered to be Neolithic or Bronze Age , but according to more recent findings are more likely to be attributed to the Middle Ages. Like a nearby grave from the Viking Age, they are designated as a Scheduled Monument and are therefore a listed building.
