Svartálfaheimr

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Svartálfaheimr , also Schwarzalbenheim ( Old Icelandic Svartálfaheimr "world of black albums "), is the underground dwelling of the dwarfs in Norse mythology . The place is only found in Snorri Sturluson's Prose Edda , from which it can be concluded that it is his own creation.

The name Schwarzalbenheim suggests a genus of mythical creatures called black albums (old Icelandic svartálfar ), which are also only attested in the Prose Edda and were probably the same as dwarves for Snorri. With him they stand in contrast to the light albums . Since this division of the albums can only be found with him, it should not be particularly old.
