Svenska Finlands folkting or Folktinget ( Swedish , German about "(Finland Swedish) People's Assembly") is an official consultative representative body for the interests of the Finnish Swedes .

The task of the Finland-Swedish People's Assembly is to promote the position of the Swedish language in Finland and to guard and strengthen the rights of the Finnish-Swedish people. The organ's status has been enshrined in the Finnish Constitution since 2003 . The People's Assembly takes part in the legislative process and prepares opinions for various authorities on issues that concern Finland-Swedes. All parties with Swedish-language party work represented in the Finnish Reichstag are represented.
elections
The deputies are determined in the framework of local elections . The distribution of seats is determined based on the number of votes that the Finnish-Swedish candidates of the respective parties receive in the local elections. As Finland-Swedish candidates are those which are in the Register of Swedish as a mother tongue have specified. Candidates who have already campaigned for the Swedish language in Finland, were active in Swedish-speaking political organizations or are listed under Swedish-language titles or occupational titles can also be counted among the relevant candidates at the request of the party.
