Svenska institutet (SI, "Swedish Institute") is a Swedish authority with the task of conveying knowledge about Sweden abroad with the support of the Swedish embassies and consulates general and promoting exchanges with other countries in the fields of culture , research and society and thus to support Swedish interests.

In 2005 the SI employed around 90 people. The state contribution to the financing of the institute amounted to around 180 million crowns .

The Board of Directors, which includes representatives from different areas of society, is appointed by the Swedish government.

With the Swedish cultural center Center Culturel Suédois , the SI has a branch in Paris.

The role of the SI is comparable to that of the German Goethe Institute .
