Sweet Thursday is the debut album of the folk rock band of the same name, which was founded around 1968 by Jon Mark , Nicky Hopkins , Alun Davies, Harvey Burns and Brian Odgers. The distribution and sale of the album suffered from the bankruptcy of the record company, which occurred at the same time as the release, whereupon the band broke up.
History
"Sweet Thursday" is the second jointly released album by school friends Jon Mark and Alun Davies, who recorded the folk album " Relax Your Mind " back in 1963. In 1968 the two founded the band "Sweet Thursday" together with Nicky Hopkins , Harvey Burns and Brian Odgers. In December 1968 the label "Tetragrammaton" released their first single "Getting It Together" (A-side) and "Mary On The Runaround" (B-side), recorded with "Sweet Thursday". The two songs composed by Jon Mark are missing from the debut album "Sweet Thursday", but are included on a CD edition of the album as bonus tracks.
The distribution and success of the debut album "Sweet Thursday", released in 1969, fell victim to the bankruptcy of the record company. Then Jon Mark was hired by John Mayall , on whose albums "The Turning Point" and "Empty Rooms" Mark played, before he founded the folk rock jazz band Mark-Almond in 1970 with Johnny Almond , which in 1973 also belonged to Alun Davies, who in in the 1970s, best known as the guitarist of Cat Stevens ' band.
