The Swithinbank moraine is a medial of the Shackleton Glacier in the Antarctic Ross Dependency . In the Queen Maud Mountains , Matador Mountain extends northward.
The southern group of a campaign carried out from 1961 to 1962 as part of the New Zealand Geological Survey Antarctic Expedition named them. It is named after the British glaciologist Charles Winthrop Molesworth Swithinbank (1926-2014), who was involved in two Antarctic summer campaigns between 1960 and 1962 in the exploration of the large glaciers that feed the Ross Ice Shelf .
