The Sydney Harbor Federation Trust , also known as Harbor Trust for short , is an Australian authority that was established in 2001 to preserve land and property of the Australian federal government in and around Sydney Harbor and to make it accessible to the public. The Harbor Trust is a subordinate agency of the Australian Federal Department of Sustainability, Environment, Water, Population and Communities . Some of these lands were not open to the public for over 100 years. The Trust brokered these properties and, with one exception, made them accessible to the public.

This authority should not be confused with the Sydney Harbor Trust , the private port administration that regulates shipping and freight traffic in Sydney Harbor .

tasks

The Harbor Trust transformed the land into urban parkland with hiking trails, lookout points and picnic areas. The buildings were renovated or leased to research institutes, restaurants and cafés, educational institutions, high schools and public service institutions. The Trust now also offers short-term vacation rentals in Headland Park in Mosman and Cockatoo Island , as well as campsites with harbor and city views. An ecological reserve has been designated as the North Head Sanctuary at Manly .

Some of the properties that the Harbor Trust manages are:

Other bodies also have responsibility for properties around Sydney Harbor. These include the Sydney Harbor Foreshore Authority and Sydney Harbor National Park , both under the supervision of the New South Wales government .
