The Sylvania Mountains are a mountain range on the eastern edge of California and Nevada in the United States . The Sylvania Mountains extend in an east-west direction north of the Last Chance Range along the northern edge of Death Valley National Park . On the eastern edge of the site, the mountains reach a height of about 2,400 meters. The area is mostly public land and is administered as Sylvania Mountains Wilderness by the Bureau of Land Management , an agency of the US Department of the Interior. The nearest town is the Bishop, approximately 50 kilometers away .
