The synagogue in Gerresheim , a district of Düsseldorf in North Rhine-Westphalia , was completed in 1875, it was located on the Wallgraben.

With the help of free communal land, the synagogue was built and inaugurated in 1875. Since most of the Jewish community members had moved to Düsseldorf between 1900 and 1910, the synagogue building was sold to a private individual in 1917.

In February 1984 the building burned down after an anti-Semitic attack. The ruin was demolished a little later.

Commemoration

Today a stone stele reminds of the former synagogue. The inscription reads: “This is where the Jewish community of Gerresheim had its place of worship from 1875 to 1907. The listed building fell victim to an arson attack in 1985. The ruin was torn down as part of the town center renovation in 1987 ”.
