The municipality belongs to the arrondissement of Melun and the canton of Combs-la-Ville (until 2015: canton of Brie-Comte-Robert ). The inhabitants of the municipality call themselves Réaltais .

Réau is located about eight kilometers north-northwest of Melun and about 34 kilometers south-southeast of Paris . Réau is surrounded by the neighboring communities Moissy-Cramayel in the north and north-west, Évry-Grégy-sur-Yerres in the north and north-east, Limoges-Fourches in the north-east, Montereau-sur-le-Jard in the east and south-east, Vert-Saint-Denis in the South, Cesson in the south and southwest and Savigny-le-Temple in the west and southwest. Autoroute A5 and Autoroute A105 run through the municipality .
