The Arrondissement Melun is an administrative unit in the Seine-et-Marne department in the French region of Île-de-France . The capital (seat of the prefecture ) is Melun .
With effect from January 1, 2006, the canton of Rozay-en-Brie moved from the Arrondissement of Melun to the Arrondissement of Provins on the occasion of an administrative reform.

Reorganization of the arrondissements in 2017
As a result of the reorganization of the arrondissements in 2017, the Arrondissement Melun became the area of the ten municipalities Arbonne-la-Forêt , Barbizon , Cély , Chailly-en-Bière , Chartrettes , Fleury-en-Bière , Perthes , Saint-Germain-sur- École , Saint-Martin-en-Bière and Saint-Sauveur-sur-École the Arrondissement Fontainebleau , the area of the seven communes Brie-Comte-Robert , Chevry-Cossigny , Férolles-Attilly , Gretz-Armainvilliers , Lésigny , Servon and Tournan- en-Brie the Arrondissement of Torcy and the area of the 15 communes of Aubepierre-Ozouer-le-Repos , Bréau , La Chapelle-Gauthier , Châtres , Clos-Fontaine , Courtomer , Favières , Fontenailles , Grandpuits-Bailly-Carrois , Liverdy-en-Brie , Mormant , Presles-en-Brie , Quiers , Saint-Ouen-en-Brie and Verneuil-l'Étang are assigned to the Provins arrondissement .
