history

Champeaux was first mentioned in 632 in the will of St. Fara , the abbess of Faremoutiers Abbey, which was later named after her . In the middle of the 7th century the Benedictines of Faremoutiers founded a priory in Champeaux . The area originally belonged to the Archdiocese of Sens , but was subordinated to the Diocese of Paris at the beginning of the 11th century . At the beginning of the 12th century, the nuns were replaced by secular canons . These founded a school for theological studies and a school for cantors , which were soon held in high esteem. Between 1160 and 1315, the canons had a new church built on the site of the old Martinskirche.
