history
The nucleus of the place was the Barbeau monastery , which was founded in 1147 by King Ludwig VII. On the banks of the Seine and was moved to its later location in 1156. Around the monastery, the place "Seine-Port" developed, today's Fontaine. Ludwig VII was buried here in 1180. In 1817 his remains were transferred to Saint-Denis; the monastery was demolished in 1837.
