Saint-Fargeau-Ponthierry is a French municipality with 14,206 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Seine-et-Marne in the region Ile-de-France . It belongs to the Arrondissement of Melun and the canton of Saint-Fargeau-Ponthierry . The inhabitants are called Ferréopontains , those of the respective districts of Thierrypontains and Ferréolais .
geography
The place is about ten kilometers west of Melun on a loop of the Seine . Here the École flows into the Seine. The municipality is located in the Gâtinais français Regional Nature Park .
The municipality is surrounded by Nandy in the north, Seine-Port in the northeast, Boissise-le-Roi in the east, Pringy in the southeast, Saint-Sauveur-sur-École in the south, Nainville-les-Roches in the southwest, Auvernaux in the west and Le Coudray-Montceaux in the northwest.

The former Route nationale 7 runs through the municipality . The stations in the districts of Saint-Fargeau and Ponthierry are on the RER D line and the railway line from Corbeil-Essonnes to Montereau.
history
Saint-Fargeau was the seat of a barony. Ponthierry takes its name from a bridge over the École, which is said to have been built by Theodoric II around the year 600.
