from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Völkershausen synagogue was located in Völkershausen , today a district of Vacha in the Wartburg district in Thuringia .

history

Jews have been found in Völkershausen since 1584. The Jewish community built a synagogue in 1815/16 at Friedensplatz 7 (today's street name). The building was renovated in 1864 and 1871. In 1903 the religious community dissolved itself, the two remaining Jewish families joined the neighboring religious community of Vacha on August 21, 1903 and left Völkershausen until 1914. With the dissolution of the religious community, the synagogue became the property of the Jewish community of Vacha and became later partially demolished. Remnants are preserved today as part of a garage, the weather vane with the year 1816 is still there.
