Synagogue Vulitsa Sazjalistichnaja 34 (Babruysk)
The synagogue with the address at Vulitsa Sazjalistichnaja 34 ( Belarusian вуліца Сацыялістычная 36 ) in Babrujsk , a Belarusian city in Mahiljouskaja Woblasz , was built in 1901.
In Babrujsk before 1941 the proportion of the Jewish population was between 25 and 30%. With over 30 synagogues , Bobrujsk was an important center of Jewish culture, so it was ironically popularly called the capital of Israel (Stalitsa Yisrael). The majority of the Jewish population was murdered by the German occupiers during the Holocaust . The synagogue was devastated during this time. The synagogue building was converted into a residential building.
