In Kurt Arndt's handbook of physico-chemical technology for researchers and technicians it says: “Since the viscous Syndeticon binds quickly, it is suitable if you want to glue something quickly. However, since it is brittle after drying, the glued area sometimes does not last long. "

In a handbook for druggists in 1893 it says: “The viscous adhesive that comes on the market under the names isinglass, Syndetikon etc. is prepared, especially in Norway, by boiling all kinds of fish parts, entrails, swim bladders etc. Recently, the Syndetikon is often just a thick sugar lime solution. "

Manufacturing

According to the pharmacist Adolf Vomácka, sugar (60.0) and water (180.0) are needed to make it. Both are “... solved by cooking. 15.0 slaked, disintegrated lime is added to the still hot solution and the whole thing is set aside for a few days in a warm place, stirring frequently. Then it is allowed to settle, the resulting clear sugar-lime solution is poured off, allowed to swell in the same 60.0 Cologne glue and liquefied after 24 hours by heating. This glue sticks excellently, but must not be used for colored paper, leather etc. "
