However, due to the organizational structure, the focus is still on the federally affiliated companies Post and Swisscom .

syndicom is committed to better working conditions, higher wages and social justice. She is committed to the organization of social works and an affordable public service.

history

syndicom is the result of a merger between the media union Comedia and the communication union . The merger congress took place on December 3, 2010.

Since the merger, syndicom has been one of the three largest trade unions in the Swiss Confederation of Trade Unions (SGB). syndicom expects this to give it more union and political clout, more weight in the public debate and in social partnership .

structure

syndicom is legally organized as an association. The governing bodies are the assembly of delegates, the central board and the management.

Syndicom's union newspaper is an important means of communicating with members. The newspaper appeared fifteen times a year until 2017. Since then the format has been graphically updated and appears every two months as syndicom magazine . With syndicom social , the union is now more active in social media .

The members find contact persons at 16 regional secretariats who take care of the support. You can get involved in regional boards of your industry and in the various interest groups (youth, women, retirees, migration, freelancers). Syndicom works with the trade union training institute Movendo.

Trade union bodies

The competencies and tasks of the individual organs within the association structure are regulated by the statutes and are specifically as follows:

  • Ballot
  • congress
  • Assembly of delegates
  • Central Board
  • Industries and sectors
  • Interest Groups
  • Sections
  • Management
  • Business Audit Committee
  • external auditor
  • Arbitration board

congress

The congress, which takes place every three years, is the highest ordinary organ of syndicom. The congress elects the management, determines the membership fees, approves the budget and determines the principles of syndicom. The representatives of the sections, the section presidents, representatives of the industry and the representatives of the interest groups are the congress participants entitled to vote.

Assembly of delegates

A delegates' meeting takes place at least once a year. This defines the important strategic direction of syndicom between the congresses.

Central Board

The central board is the regular board of directors according to the applicable Swiss association law. Unless otherwise regulated by the statutes, he is entitled to all competencies. The Central Board meets at least four times a year.

Management

The management is made up of full-time employees. This is responsible for the fulfillment and coordination of day-to-day business and reports directly to the central board.

Interest Groups

There are currently five interest groups (also called commissions) in the syndicom union:

  • Women
  • youth
  • Retired
  • migration
  • Freelancers

Umbrella organizations

syndicom is a member of the following umbrella organizations:

The syndicom logo consists of twelve yellow icons . Each of these yellow icons symbolizes a syndicom branch. There are also 14 other icons in blue and black, with the black icons standing for “demands and struggle” and the blue icons for “dialogue and negotiations”.

opposition

In 2013, an internal union opposition formed under the name Syndicom SOS, particularly from Sector 3, and especially from the graphic industry. On her website she takes up alleged abuses within the union: dismantling of union democracy, paying out excessive wages of union leaders or censorship in the union press. The union’s policy is also criticized on various points, be it the tariff policy or the failure in the fight against the privatization of post and telecommunications. The Zurich Graphic Industry and Packaging Section approached the ordinary trade union congress in Lausanne in December 2013 with a proposal for a resolution, accepting demands from the opposition group. The resolution was put on the agenda, although it was not submitted on time. The delegates present, however, rejected the draft resolution and the points of criticism contained therein with a dissenting vote. There was no one in the hall among the 400 delegates and guests who wanted to represent the matter publicly. A lack of grassroots democracy in the union is an important point of criticism from Syndicom SOS.
