Synoikos

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A synoikos ( Greek  σύν-οικος , living together , closely connected ) referred to in ancient Greece the amalgamation of several farms in one village or several small villages in one town. This could happen for economic, strategic, political or social reasons, such as the natural merging of nearby, expanding cities.

Today, the reconstruction of urban structures that have arisen in large metropolitan areas across Europe is known as Synoikos. It is about the revival of coexistence in these large urban spaces.
