The Sythener Hellweg via Sythen is the oldest connection between Dülmen and Haltern am See . For centuries it served as an army route and trade route, although according to today's understanding it would not be called a road.

The section from Sythen-Lehmbraken to the local border of Dülmen still consists of a sandy path, the potholes of which are occasionally filled with stones. This condition comes closest to the original condition. In earlier years, too deep and wet wagon tracks were repaired with bundles of wood or very humid stretches were overcome by building a stick dam .

Coat of arms of Friedrich Christian von Plettenberg on the bridge

The Sythener Hellweg crossed the Heubach over a wooden bridge at the Große Teichsmühle in Hausdülmen until Friedrich Christian von Plettenberg had it replaced by a stone bridge in 1705. His coat of arms is placed on a sandstone slab on the central pillar of the bridge upstream.
