Sythen [ ˈziːtən ] with 6345 inhabitants is the largest village in the town of Haltern am See .

location

The place is on the southern edge of the Münsterland in North Rhine-Westphalia. Due to its convenient location, Sythen is a preferred destination for young families from the Ruhr area.

history

Sythen was mentioned as Sitnia as early as 758. That year King Pepin the Younger encamped in Sythen. Bishop Wolfhelm von Münster donated 889 properties in Sythen to the Werden monastery. In 1017 Heinrich II transferred property in nine places to the diocese of Paderborn, including a manse in Sythen.

The place belonged to the municipality of Kirchspiel Haltern until it was incorporated into Haltern on January 1, 1975.

traffic

The Sythener Hellweg , which connected Dülmen and Haltern for centuries, is named after Sythen .

Sythen is on the Wanne-Eickel – Hamburg railway line , which is served by the RE 42 ( Niers-Haard-Express ) in local traffic. Sythen is on the border between the Rhine-Ruhr transport association and the Westphalian tariff . Due to complaints from Sythen , DB Regio changed the announcement tapes in mid-2006, since then Sythen has been pronounced correctly (no longer like Süthen).

The A 43 is only a few kilometers away and can be reached via the Lavesum or Marl-Nord exit.
