Tändelei is a polka mazurka by Johann Strauss Sohn (op. 310). The work was performed for the first time on August 21, 1866 in Vienna's Volksgarten .

Remarks

The polka was created against the background of Austria's military defeat in the war of 1866 . Due to the events, the mood in Vienna was very bad and Johann Strauss tried to lighten this mood with a festival in the Volksgarten and to distract from the events. Among other things, the polka dandy was written on this occasion . The original date of the event was also the August 17 the eve of the birthday of Emperor Franz Joseph I. . Due to bad weather, the date had to be postponed to August 21.
