According to REFA , the working time of the person is composed of the sum of the target times for all process sections of the process types main activity (MH) and secondary activity (MN), which are required for processing unit of measure 1. Analogously, one speaks of usage time for equipment , i.e. the main and secondary usage time .

The activity time is divided into influenceable (t tb ) and non-influenceable (t tu ) activity time. Activity times that can be influenced are those that the employee can influence in terms of duration. In the case of times that cannot be influenced, however, he is bound, for example, to the working speed of his equipment. This is important for the time study , since a level of performance can only be assessed for activities that can be influenced.
