Tunnel do Rego

The Túnel do Rego is a road tunnel in the municipality of Avenidas Novas in the Portuguese capital, Lisbon .

It connects the Rotunda da Rua da Beneficência with the Rua Sousa Lopes in the Santos district and crosses under the Linha de Cintura railway line . This connection allows car traffic to flow from Praça de Espanha to Avenida 5 de Outubro .

Construction began in March 2004 and the tunnel was inaugurated in December 2005. The executing company was the Construtora do Tâmega . The construction costs amounted to around 4.3 million euros. The 315 meter long tunnel has two lanes in each direction.
