The Praça de Espanha is a square in the northern inner city of the Portuguese capital Lisbon . It is formed from the intersection of Avenida António Augusto Aguiar , Avenida Columbano Bordalo Pinheiro , Avenida de Berna and Avenida dos Combatentes . The municipalities of Campolide , Avenidas Novas and São Domingos de Benfica border each other there.
On the square is the Museu Calouste Gulbenkian and the Palácio de Palhavã , the residence of the Spanish Ambassador. The square had long been popularly known as Praça Espanha . He officially got his name on January 22, 1979.
In the middle of the square, the Arco de São Bento was built in 1998 , which was previously part of the Galeria da Esperança des Aqueduto das Águas Livres .
The square is accessed by an underground station . Bus routes with various destinations south of the Tagus leave here.
