Türkiye Bilimler Akademisi

The Türkiye Bilimler Akademisi (TÜBA; German  Academy of Sciences of Turkey ) is a Turkish research institution based in Ankara .

It was founded in September 1993 on the basis of Law 497. On December 7, 1994, the Academy began its work. It is subordinate to the Prime Minister's Office of Turkey , but is an autonomous institution in scientific, administrative and financial terms. The TÜBA works closely with the Science and Technology Research Council of Turkey .

After the Turkish government issued a decree in 2011 that gave it the opportunity to appoint members of the Academy of Sciences, around 80 percent of the former members of the TÜBA resigned from this academy and founded a new science academy under the name "Bilim Akademisi" "that advocates scientific excellence, scientific traditions and methods, and scientific freedom and integrity.
