The Týr is an offshore patrol vessel of Ægir-class and was until 2011 the flagship of the Icelandic Coast Guard .

The ship was built in 1975 by Aarhus Flydedok in Denmark. The Týr is the second largest Coast Guard ship and was involved in Iceland's clashes in the Third Cod War. In May 1976, the ship survived a double ramming maneuver by HMS Falmouth . The captain then ordered the cannons to be manned to prevent further ramming.

Originally, the ship was armed with two 57mm M1898 Hotchkiss cannons and was fitted with Bofors 40mm cannons in 1990 . In 1994 the Týr was modernized with a crane on the starboard side and in 1997 with a larger helicopter deck. In 2001 the ship was modernized again in a Polish shipyard and received a second rudder.

The Týr assumes Frontex operations in the Mediterranean part. On June 11, 2015, the ship was rammed and damaged by the Russian sailor Kruzenshtern in Reykjavík .
