T13 (standardization committee)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

T13 is a standardization body of the INCITS and regularly publishes drive standards on its website.

The best known standard is ATA / ATAPI , which defines the software communication between the system and the drive. The last version is ATA / ATAPI-7, and at the moment (May 2007) the next version ATA / ATAPI-8 is still being worked on, although some drives are already pretending to be the ATA / ATAPI-8 standard. Another important factor is the "BIOS Enhanced Disk Drive Services" standard, which describes important BIOS functions for using drives.

The ATA protocol is used for all drives that are connected via the IDE interface.
For CD and DVD drives, the "Packet Interface" (PI) extension is used, which is based on the SCSI protocol, but is not specified by T13 itself, but by T10 .

T13 was formerly called X3T10, in very old standards (no longer published on the website) it can still be found as X3T10. The origin of this is that T13 and T10 used to belong together, and then there was a division of labor and differentiation between the ATA and ATAPI standards.
