The TDS office tower Neckarsulm was built from 1997 to 1999, the construction costs were around 55 million marks. The building itself is 70 meters high, with the antenna mounted on the roof, the tower is 103 meters high, making it the tallest office building in the greater Heilbronn area . It offers space for a total of 550 employees.
Thanks to innovative ventilation technology, the tower was originally intended to do without air conditioning, but a supply air cooling system had to be installed afterwards, as the planned ventilation concept did not prove itself.
Up to 80,000 cubic meters of outside air per hour is sucked through an underground duct, where it is tempered and then flows into the rooms via floor ducts. An exhaust air shaft is used for extracting the exhaust air, which is supposed to extract the heated room air with the help of the thermals .
At the opening in 1999, the architects promised: "With this new form of heating and ventilation technology and utilization of the full potential of the climate facade, neither cooling ceilings, partial air conditioning systems nor refrigeration machines are required."
However, since this heating and ventilation technology was not sufficient, active supply air cooling soon had to be retrofitted, which, however, is not sufficient either. During an inspection on May 16, 2003 at 7 p.m., indoor temperatures of 32 ° C were measured on the ground floor, while the outside temperature was 25 ° C.
