Tourism in Lower Saxony

The tourism in Lower Saxony is one of about 89,000 social insurance employees in the hospitality industry an important economic factor. With around 15,000,000 guests and 40,000,000 commercial overnight stays as well as almost 5,000,000 million overnight stays on campsites in 2018, Lower Saxony is one of the five most popular federal states. 90% of the tourists come from Germany . In addition to the commercial overnight stays, there is a considerable number of visitors staying with friends or in private quarters. The most popular destinations are the North Sea coast , the East Frisian Islands , the Lüneburg Heath and the Harz Mountains . The country experiences the greatest flow of visitors in the summer months of July and August.

Tourist destinations

North Sea

The North Sea coast of Lower Saxony extends over 200 kilometers between the Dollart and the Elbe estuary . The most important tourist centers are Emden , Wilhelmshaven and Cuxhaven . The main visiting time is the summer months. Possible activities are sunbathing on the sandy beach, swimming in the North Sea and mudflat hiking in the Lower Saxony Wadden Sea National Park .

In summer, the Harz is mainly a destination for hiking tourists. In winter there is the possibility of winter sports such as cross-country skiing, alpine skiing or sledding in the Harz Mountains.

Weserbergland

The Weserbergland is an attractive tourist destination and extends from Hann. Münden in the south to Minden in the north with z. B. the Solling as a large contiguous forest area. The Weser Cycle Path is one of the best known and most popular cycle paths in Germany. The Weserbergland is - z. B. am Köterberg - the motorcycle area on the doorstep of the biker friends of Northern Germany.
