TEMPiS

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

TEMPiS (for telemedical project for integrated stroke care ) is one of the largest telemedical stroke networks in Europe. The network, founded in 2003, connects 21 regional clinics in Southeast Bavaria with three stroke centers in Munich, Regensburg and Altötting. The aim is the comprehensive integration of all evidence-based stroke therapies in rural areas. The project sponsor is the Munich Municipal Clinic .

overview

After admission to a TEMPiS clinic, patients with suspected stroke are connected to a specialized neurologist in one of the two centers by video conference . The CT or MRT images are transmitted simultaneously via an encrypted broadband connection. The neurologist at the center can decide within a few minutes whether recanalizing therapy such as thrombolysis or thrombectomy is indicated. While intravenous thrombolysis can be started immediately in the regional clinic, a secondary transfer to a neuroradiological intervention center is usually necessary for the thrombectomy . As part of the “Flying Interventionalist” pilot project, thrombectomy has also been performed on site in some TEMPiS clinics since 2018. A specialized intervention team can be flown in from Munich by helicopter if necessary. The procedure can be started about 100 minutes earlier than before.

In 2017, almost 10,000 stroke patients were treated in the TEMPiS network.
