The TSV Plön is a 1864 established sports club from the Schleswig-Holstein town of Plön . TSV Plön has 1160 members who are organized into a total of 27 divisions. One of the most successful branches of the club is football. The venue for the league footballers is the Schiffsthalstadion, and the football department can still use the traditional sports field in the palace garden and the Ksour-Essaf-Platz in the Stadtheide district. The first team of the club has been playing in the Association League East since the 2016/2017 season after being promoted from the Plön district league.

The footballers appeared in the DFB-Pokal in 1980/81 when they qualified for the first main round and lost 3-0 to the then second division 1. FC Saarbrücken . The greatest successes include winning the SHFV Cup in 1980 and long-standing membership of the highest Schleswig-Holstein divisions with the 1986/87 runner-up and the resulting participation in the promotion round to the then Oberliga Nord. TSV Plön also gained national fame through its boxing ring around Anne-Marie Stark and through the success of the gymnastics department.

History of the football department

TSV Plön was founded in 1864. Football was played in TSV from around the turn of the century. In 1907, the 1st Plöner Ballspielverein was founded as a spin-off of the football department, but from 1918 it found its way back to TSV. After the end of the Second World War, the club that had come to a standstill during the war was re-established under the name ASV Plön (General Sports Club). In 1951 it was renamed TSV Plön.

Until the 1972/73 season, the TSV footballers played predominantly in the district league, which was the second highest division in Schleswig-Holstein at the time. After the re-launch of the regional league, the club only played third-rate for a short time before being promoted to the newly created league. The test matches against HSV and Schalke 04, which the Plön team sensationally won 2-1, also fall during this time.

The 1979/80 season was probably one of the most successful of the traditional club. The team was sovereign champions of the Landesliga Nord, which was the first time they were promoted to the top division of the country. In addition, the team secured victory in the SHFV state cup with a 3-1 victory at the lower-class SV Blau-Weiß Wesselburen. In the following season, TSV Plön was allowed to represent Schleswig-Holstein in the DFB Cup and failed against 1.FC Saarbrücken with 0: 3. In the following seasons, TSV Plön started in the Schleswig-Holstein Association League. The 1986/87 season was the most successful. The TSV was runner-up behind VfB Lübeck and represented Schleswig-Holstein in the promotion round to the then third-class league. After victories against FC Mahndorf and ASC Nienburg, there was initially hope of promotion in the games against the amateur team of Hamburger SV, but the Plön team then clearly failed.

In the 1989/90 season, the Plöner rose from the association league, but were able to establish themselves in the Landesliga Nord before they could return to the top division of the country for three seasons after the 1994/95 season. From the 1996/97 season there was a decline with two relegations to the district league, from which, however, 2003 rose again. There was a march back into the association league. In the summer of 2008, the club found itself in the district league for the first time since the 1950s as a result of a league reform.

After the promotion from this in 2009, the footballers play in the newly created Association League North-East. The TSV soccer department celebrated its 100th anniversary with a friendly against FC St. Pauli (2007).

Trivia

In spring 2014 the entire club celebrated its 150th anniversary, making it one of the oldest sports clubs in Northern Germany. The highlight of the celebrations was a friendly game between the TSV handball players and the German record champions THW Kiel.
