The Taça da Prefeitura do Distrito Federal ( Cup of the Prefecture of the Federal Districts ), often also known as the Torneio Municipal do Rio de Janeiro ( City Tournament of Rio de Janeiro ), was a tournament for football club teams in the then Brazilian capital, Rio de Janeiro , which was held in 1938 was held for the first time and was held annually from 1943 to 1948. The last draw was in 1951. In 1996 the cup was revived as Taça Cidade Maravilhosa , the "Cup of the wonderful city", after the nickname of Rio de Janeiro. The importance of the competition, which is always overshadowed by the state championship in Rio de Janeiro , is subordinate.

The competition was held in a simple league format, i.e. without second legs. If there was a tie, there was a playoff. Eight clubs took part in 1938, ten in 1943 to 46, and 11 in 1947 and 1948. At the Taça Cidade Maravilhosa in 1996, eight clubs made the winner among themselves.

The top clubs in the city - Fluminense FC , CR Flamengo , Botafogo , CR Vasco da Gama , America FC , and Bangu AC took part in all tournaments . Bonsucesso FC , Madureira EC , Olaria AC and the Canto do Rio FC from Niterói were other participants.
