Tadashi Kobayashi

Tadashi Kobayashi ( Japanese 小林 忠 , Kobayashi Tadashi; born April 11, 1941 in Tōkyō ) is a Japanese art scholar , best known for his publications on ukiyoe art.

Live and act

Tadashi Kobayashi studied art at the University of Tōkyō . He headed the research center for information gathering at the National Museum Tōkyō , then became a professor at the Gakushūin University , which appointed him to "Meiyō Kyōju" after his departure. In October 2013 he became the first director of the newly opened private Okada Art Museum (岡田 美術館, Okada bijutsukan) in Hakone (Kanagawa) .

Kobayashi is one of the editors of the art magazine "Kokka" (國 華), which has been published since 1889, making it the oldest existing art magazine in Japan.

  1. Meiyo Kyōju (名誉 教授) is occasionally rendered in German as "Professor emeritus". But in contrast to this title, which is automatically used on retirement, this is a special award only occasionally granted in Japan.
