Tafsir (Bible translation)

The Tafsir is the title of the Arabic translation of the Bible by Saadia Gaon (882-942). It is the first complete Arabic translation of all the books of the Tanakh . This translation was common among Jews, Samaritans, and Christians. It was used by its author Saadia Gaon in disputes with the Karaites .

Saadia Gaon's tafsir is written in classical Arabic . Parts of it were translated into Arabic with Hebrew letters by Abraham ibn Esra (1092–1167) for a Jewish readership .
