The day of Geodesy is since 2016 annually by the Committee Geodesy - DGK proclaimed. It is intended to further improve the information of the general public about tasks and occupational fields of geodesy and geoinformatics , increase awareness and, above all, arouse the interest of schoolchildren in the topics. The aim is to carry out a variety of high-profile events at the universities together with professional associations, authorities and other actors at numerous locations in Germany at the same time as possible through a concerted campaign. In terms of recruiting young talent, the focus is on PR for the subject geodesy, career prospects and the acquisition of students. For the summer of 2020 (July 16 to 24) a "Geodesy Action Week" is being planned at over 30 locations in Baden-Württemberg .
