The Mother Language Day (Estonian emakeelepäev ) is in Estonia at the initiative of professor Meinhard Laks since 1996 on 14 March of the poet, the birthday of Kristjan Jaak Peterson committed. Since 1999 , the day has been a public holiday in Estonia .
