The day the neighborhood , even the day of the neighbors (Neighbors' Day) is a Initiativtag, the first time in 1999 in Paris was conducted. The European Federation of Local Solidarity (EFLS) raised it to European level in 2004. It is always held on the last Tuesday in May and is intended to promote the community in Europe by exchanging ideas about neighborhood and community activities. A total of 30 million people in 36 countries take part in events on this day of action. It was first committed in Germany in 2018 and is funded by the Federal Ministry for Family, Seniors, Women and Youth . Around 1000 events took place in Germany on Neighborhood Day in 2018; in 2019 there were already 3000.

In Austria it is being celebrated for the first time in Vienna in 2007 and, since 2013, in Lower Austria as well .

In 2020 , no events could take place at the end of May due to the COVID-19 pandemic . Various institutions have therefore honored the day's concern in different ways. The Saarlandwelle reported on April 24th, one month before the planned day, about neighborly relief efforts during the COVID-19 pandemic. In Switzerland, Neighbors' Day was postponed to August 28, 2020
