The Day Care Expansion Act ( law on the quality-oriented and needs-based expansion of day care for children , TAG ) is a German article law that came into force on January 1, 2005. Its aim is the quality-oriented and needs-based expansion of day care and the further development of child and youth welfare . The article law lays down a number of changes in Book VIII of the Social Code and in other laws.

First and foremost, the TAG applies to the fair expansion of childcare , especially daycare for children under three years of age. By October 2010, 230,000 additional places in day-care centers , crèches or day care workers are to be created nationwide . The need for education and care offers is now being made more concrete through the formulation of quality criteria and expanded to include child day care. Child day care should develop into an equally important alternative and give parents a choice between the different care options. The associated support offers and steps to qualify day care workers are explained in Section 23 TAG.
