Day march

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

With days march (days Marsch) which is called cruise performance of a group, eg. B. a military unit for 24 hours.

From the Bible, distances of up to 40 kilometers are passed down for a day's journey , see dimensions and weights in the Bible # Wegemße

For the military, in times of peace, the daily march for all troops was expected to be 22.5 km , with a day of rest on the 3rd or 4th day. The highest performance with the most favorable season, good weather and unabated night's sleep was assumed for the cavalry at 80 km and for the infantry at 50 km, without this performance could be repeated in succession. A two-day maximum performance was assumed for the cavalry to drop to 100 km and for the infantry to 70 km. For the third day it was assumed that the daily mileage was about 35 km, with the troops still able to fight and, to a very lesser extent, able to march on the fourth day. These top performances were achieved by smaller departments that were disciplined and trained for the march. For larger divisions ( army corps ) the performance sank to 30 km.
