The Tajbeg Palace or Tapa-e-Tajbeg Palace is the ruin of a palace 10 km south of Kabul , the capital of Afghanistan .

It is only a few meters from Darul Aman Palace and was the palace of the Queen of Afghanistan.

history

The palace, like the Darul Aman Palace, was built in the 1920s as part of King Amanullah Khan's reforms . In the course of his reform, King Amanullah also devoted himself to the urban development of Kabul. He had the new Darulaman district built 11 km from the old city center , with the palace of the same name in the center. The Tajbeg Palace was built just 800 meters away.

The palace, built in the style of a European manor house , stood on the spot where the royal family used to hunt and picnic.

Later, the palace was used as the presidential palace by Hafizullah Amin until the invasion of the Soviet Union . On December 27, 1979, the day of the invasion, about 700 Soviet paratroopers and members of Spetsnaz and KGB units of the ALFA and ZENITH groups stormed the palace as part of Operation Storm-333 and killed Amin.

During the Soviet-Afghan war that followed, the palace was the headquarters of the 40th Soviet Army . After the withdrawal of the Soviet Union, the palace was finally ruined in the 1990s by artillery shelling by the Mujahideen .
