Take it easy is a strategic board game. It was developed in 1983 under the name Hextension by Peter Burley and distributed by Spear-Spiele . The game has been sold under the name Take it easy since 1994 by the FX Schmid publisher (now part of Ravensburger ) and under license from other publishers. The graphics of the original version were designed by Franz Vohwinkel .

The game took 9th place in the German Games Prize in 1994 and was on the selection list for Game of the Year .

The number of players is unlimited, the games sold are usually offered for up to four players or for up to eight players (XXL version).

Course of the game

Game board

Each player receives a board and 27 stones. The stones are hexagonal and have three numbers, one of which stands for the vertical direction, one for the main diagonal top left – bottom right and the third for the secondary diagonal bottom left – top right. In the vertical rows are the numbers 9, 5 or 1, in the main diagonals the numbers 8, 4 or 3 and in the secondary diagonals the numbers 7, 6 or 2, whereby each of the three numbers in one direction is combined with those in the other directions. The board consists of 19 hexagons that form a row of five, two rows of four and two rows of three vertically and in both diagonal directions.

Token

One of the players places his pieces face down in front of him and draws 19 pieces one after the other. After each move, he informs the other players about the piece he has moved, they take it from their pile and position it on their game board. After the next stone drawn, the pieces that were previously placed may no longer be changed. If all stones in a vertical or diagonal row have the same number when the board is occupied, the player is credited with the sum of these numbers. The aim of the game is to position the drawn pieces on the board in such a way that the highest possible number of points is achieved.

According to the developer, the maximum number of points that can be achieved is 307.

variants

The game can be played in different variants. So you can agree that stones that have already been laid down may be moved again or that the game master immediately draws all 19 stones, communicates these to the other players and they then try to score as high as possible.

The game can also be played alone. The player can place the pieces drawn (one after the other or at the same time) on the board with the aim of achieving the highest possible score. Finally, you can try to get the maximum possible number of points with the entire sentence.

An expanded variant of the game is Take It To The Limit! by the same author.
