Takoma Records

Takoma Records was a small but influential record label founded in 1959/60 by John Fahey , Norman Pierce and ED Denson . Its name comes from John Fahey's hometown of Takoma Park, Maryland (a suburb of Washington, DC ). The Takoma record label brought in addition to Fahey's own works a. a. Records by Leo Kottke , Peter Lang , Robbie Basho and the blues musicians Bukka White and Robert Pete Williams and was important for the music genre American Primitivism . The Takoma catalog was bought by Chrysalis in the 1970s , then by Allegiance , and in 1995 by Fantasy Records , which in turn was acquired by Concord Music Group in 2004 .
