Takumar is the name and brand name for lenses from the Asahi Optical Company , now Ricoh . The name is derived from the painter Takuma Kajiwara , brother of Kumao Kajiwara , who founded the company in November 1919. The name was used from 1952 to 1975 when Asahi switched from the M42 connector to the Pentax K (K-Mount) bayonet socket . The K-mount lenses were then called SMC Pentax. SMC stands for Super Multi Coated (super multi-coated). Pentax revived the Takumar name in the 1980s and 1990s for an affordable range of lenses that lacked the Pentax Super Multi-Coating anti-reflective coating .

history

In 1952 the first, non-standardized Takumar lenses for the Asahiflex camera with a little more than 40mm ( Praktiflex ) but smaller than 42mm ( Contax , Pentacon ) screw mounts were built. From 1957 the Takumar lenses were built with M42 standard mounts, which were also used on cameras from other manufacturers.
